Explore the Many Activities at Dana Point Harbor

Dana Point Harbor is the city’s primary hub, offering countless opportunities for fun and recreation. It serves as base for yacht clubs, cruise services, whale watching trip services, boat and kayak rentals, fishing charters and more. It also features a marina with 2,500 boat slips.

The harbor is home to a number of shops offering a wide assortment of merchandise, as well as to excellent restaurants and coffee shops, many of which provide the perfect waterfront dining experience.

Enjoy an Active or Laid Back Day at the Beach

Dana Point’s beaches are visited by numerous tourists and locals every year, particularly surfers who come to enjoy the world-class surfing opportunities on Doheny State Beach and Salt Creek Beach. Other water activities include sailing, fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and more.

On the shore, you can spend time sunbathing, running and beachcombing. You can also do sports like volleyball and basketball, with available facilities found on parks along the beach. Doheny State Beach features a large picnic area and a campground with more than 120 campsites.

Dana Point offers whale watching opportunities all year round, with blue whales passing through from May to November, and migrating gray whales returning in November through April. If you’re lucky, you might even spot an Orca whale.

Dana Point is home to Monarch Beach Golf Links, a public golf club that also offers memberships. Members get special rates and other benefits, including reservation priority, merchandise credits and privileges at the Monarch Beach Club.

The golf club features a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed course, a clubhouse with a restaurant, golf shop and other facilities. With its beachfront location, the club offers amazing views, plus the rare opportunity to enjoy a day of both surfing and golfing.

The club also features The Golf Academy at Monarch Club, providing lessons and training for beginners, as well as more advanced players who want to improve their game.

Experience One-of-a-Kind Shopping

Shopping in Dana Point is not the usual mall crawl. You will find exquisite waterfront and historical shops selling unique finds, specialty items and upscale merchandise in style.

Dana Point Harbor has three shopping districts – Dana Wharf, Mariner’s Village and Mariner’s Alley. They feature over 30 shops offering a wide array of merchandise, including gourmet food, wines, island wear and accessories, artworks, décor, jewelry, sporting equipment and luxury brands.

Adjacent to the beach is Monarch Bay Plaza, which opened in the early 1960s and has the distinction of being Dana Point’s first shopping center. Located close to the Monarch Beach golf club and two world-class resort hotels, Monarch Bay Plaza is home to a wide array of shops and boutiques, as well as several fine restaurants.
