Laguna Niguel is one of California’s first master-planned communities. Originally developed in 1959, the city was designed with over one-third of the land devoted to open space. With its many parks and public greens, close proximity to southern Orange County’s gorgeous beaches, and an ideal location between San Diego and Los Angeles, Laguna Niguel offers a wonderful quality of life that has made it one of the most sought-after communities in California.
The name Laguna Niguel was derived from the Spanish word for the lagoon and from “Nigueli”, a Native American village which once stood near Aliso Creek. With plenty of open spaces, the city boasts a beautiful landscape featuring rolling hills and coastal canyons that lead to the ocean.
Wile, not a waterfront community, parts of Laguna Niguel are no more than a mile away from the beach. The city’s location makes it an ideal bedroom community for people who work in the business districts of neighboring cities like Irvine and Newport Beach. Many businesses also thrive in Laguna Niguel, particularly in the service sector, and top employers in the city include Costco, Walmart, and Albertsons.
